Noelle & Andrew are a really sweet couple. As we photographed their Disneyland engagement session you could see how much they love each other just by the way they look at one another. There is a very particular look that comes over Noelle’s face when looking at Andrew. The type of look where you know everything else fades away and all she sees is him. These two had originally contacted me just to photograph their engagement session, since their wedding is happening in Washington D.C. I let them know that I travel and that their engagement session would be included at no cost if was part of their wedding package. We Skyped for our first meeting, since at the time they lived in Ohio (now in sunny California) and everything fell into place.

They are both big Disney fans so there was only one location that would work for their engagement session. Since they’re annual pass holders (and so are my wife and I), we were able to photograph in both parks. When we hit California Adventure Noelle changed into a cute Minnie Mouse dress and Andrew got a little more casual. They were both much more comfortable and it shows in the photos. I always tell my couples to wear something that reflects who they are and in which they’re comfortable. If it’s not you and you’re uncomfortable then what’s the point?

I’m very excited for these two and can’t wait for their D.C. wedding next year! Congratulations Noelle & Andrew!

If you’ve read through some previous posts you may notice I mention a lot of the same vendors. That’s because its important to have a solid team when putting together an event. Dana and Laura at DB Creativity always put together a solid team. When Dana was asked to create an exclusive event for the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood in order to show off their event space to event vendors, she asked me to photograph. I was happy to do so and the results are outstanding. Check One 2 was providing the entertainment and really kept things going per usual. I always love working events with them.

The Hard Rock has a great event space with a ton of room, a stage, and more. Check out the images below and contact them for your next event.

I love post-wedding sessions! Bridal, trash the dress, boudoir, etc. I’m up for anything and I’m now simply calling them “creative sessions”. For Laura and Omar’s creative session, we went for trashing her dress at the beach. (It actually held up pretty well)

Laura contacted me a couple weeks after their wedding. She had seen a previous trash the dress session I shot at the beach and love everything she saw, including the location, El Matador State Beach in Malibu. I did not photograph her and Omar’s wedding. There photographer is actually someone I know, but she doesn’t shoot these sessions. Although we shot on the same beach as the post Laura saw I made sure to get different images and use different spots. Every couple is unique and I want their photos to be unique as well.

When we discussed the overall feel of the session Laura wanted some romance, but always wanted it to keep things fun. During the session, she said she never considered herself “sexy”. I think these images say otherwise. I did post a bit more of the romantic side here, but you can still see the smiles on their faces and the joy of playing on the beach in their formal wear. Laura even had Omar’s tie on her head by the end of our session. These two were so easy to work with and were laughing and playing the entire time. I have numerous shots of them throwing wet sand at each other.

I love fun, adventurous couples and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to work with these two. Congratulations Laura & Omar!

Colin’s Bar Mitzvah is coming up and I wanted to share his recent Bar Mitzvah Portrait session. I do these sessions with almost all of my Bar & Bat Mitzvah clients. These are done long before the actual event and used to create their sign-in book and other items. Quite often we’ll stylize the session to either match the child’s interest or the theme of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah reception. It’s pretty obvious that Colin is very into soccer. He brought countless jersey’s, soccer balls, and cleats for his session. With the way the heat has been in Southern California, we were lucky to find a park that still had green grass.

We shot a number of posed portraits in the park, but I think some of the best shots came when I simply let Colin play. I’m looking forward to his Bar Mitzvah!

I always tell people that “I like reality” when it comes to my photography. Usually I’m talking about not using Photoshop and getting things right in camera. However, many times this pertains to capturing real moments and real emotion. Even when I’m creating a dynamic shot that requires some set up, I’m always looking for the real moment that is occurring between my couples. That’s what I got while working with Tony & Charlett. I didn’t really have to direct them, I didn’t need to tell them to smile. They were always smiling, naturally playful, and very obviously in love.

I’ve known Tony for a long time. He’s one of my fraternity brother from back in college and he has always been a good guy. When he called me to discuss photographing his wedding I was very excited for him and honored that he called. When I spoke with Charlett it was very obvious how important photography was to her and that’s always a plus. For their engagement session we hit a number of spots in downtown Los Angeles. More and more I’m discovering hidden gems throughout the city, even within places I’ve been to many times. We shot a bit at Union Station (things have changed since I last shot there), across the way by Olvera Street, and at Disney Concert Hall. I had a very hard time narrowing down the images to post, always a good problem to have.

Congratulations Tony & Charlett, I can’t wait for your vineyard destination wedding!
