It can get cold in Seattle, that’s why it’s important to have someone to hold close. I had been looking forward to photographing Arleen and Jason’s engagement session for a long time. Not just because it’s my first engagement session in Seattle, but because Arleen is an old friend from high school. Just before these two were engaged I was in Seattle to photograph a bridal session and meet with other vendors, so Arleen and I got together for breakfast (I highly recommend Biscuit Bitch at Caffe Lieto, trust me – www.biscuitbitch.com). We talked about life and I told Arleen about my business and how important the right photographer, who provides a full service, is for a wedding. She agreed and told me that everything I described is what she would want out of her wedding photographer, if she ever got engaged. A couple weeks later, Arleen contacted me and told me that Jason had proposed.

Since one of our original locations for their session fell through, we headed to Freeway Park in downtown Seattle. It’s a mix of concrete and greenery and sits above the 5 freeway. It was a great place to start. From there we headed back to their neighborhood in Queen Anne (one of my favorite neighborhoods), photographed on the street and finally ended up in their early 1900s mansion (now converted to apartments) to photograph in the lobby and on the upstairs deck that has an amazing view of the city. (Same view as Kerry Park, just not as crowded).

I cannot wait for their Seattle wedding on the MV Skansonia! (www.skansonia.com) Congratulations Arleen & Jason!

Justine & Rob are simply fun loving, genuine people. They kept their wedding simple, using a relative’s home in Arcadia and having a garden party style reception. Family was key in making their wedding happen. Justine’s mom, a florist, handled all the flowers, her brother (an aspiring chef) and uncle handled all the food, and her aunt and uncle provided the home. Add in a professional make-up artist, a string quartet, a couple of bartenders, and myself and we had all the bases covered.

As much as I love big lavish weddings, I find that intimate, family and friend oriented weddings are something special. Justine and Rob decided against the grand entrance, first dance, and flower grenade (bouquet toss), instead they spent time with their guests and enjoyed every moment. Since space was limited, time was short, and I only lived 5 minutes way, (plus I really enjoyed working with Rob & Justine) I came back later in the evening, after guests had left, to take a few creative nighttime shots. The results are fantastic and I can’t wait to share all the photos with this couple.

Congratulations Rob & Justine! (View their engagement session here: Rob & Justine’s E-Session)

I think I’ve out done myself with this session. I am really, really pleased with the images we created and had an extremely hard time narrowing them down for this post. Eddie & Terry told me early on that they were interested in doing a trash the dress session. I had given them a handful of ideas and they decided on the beach. Now, this type of session at the beach is where “trash the dress” originated, but I had not yet done such a session at the beach. I knew that I wanted to capture something sensual and romantic, and different from sessions I’ve seen in the past. Eddie & Terry were after the same thing and they were the perfect couple with which to create such images. The love they share is very apparent and could easily been seen at their Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding a few weeks prior (View the wedding here: Eddie & Terry’s Wedding {SB Courthouse}”) Terry also had the perfect dress, a mermaid cut. There are a group of photos where it truly looks like Eddie caught himself a mermaid.

We chose El Matador State Beach due to its rocky coast line and I equipped myself with a ProFoto B1, battery powered, off-camera flash. I’ve been dying to try out this flash and I knew I would need more power for this session than what I usually carry. The results speak for themselves. Congratulations again Eddie & Terry, I can’t wait to show you the rest of these photos!

I love working with Emily’s family! I photographed her older sister’s Bat Mitzvah a few years ago and have stayed in contact with the family. They have been some of my biggest supporters and sent numerous clients my way. It has been amazing watching Emily and he sister grow and see how much they’ve changed in a few short years. I was very excited to photograph this big day for Emily.

It’s always fun to photograph an event where I know a good number of people in attendance. I not only knew a lot of the family, but many of the guests and this was not the type of crowd to shy away from the camera. In addition to all the fun moments on the dance floor, I made sure to capture some individual shots of Emily in the kid’s lounge. I love what we created! Congratulations Emily!

I love that Eddie & Terry contacted me for to handle their Santa Barbara Wedding Photography! It especially means a lot since Eddie is one of my fraternity brothers and I’m truly honored when someone I know trusts me to photograph such an important day.

I have photographed at the Santa Barbara Courthouse before, but this was actually my first wedding there and it is such a beautiful setting. Eddie & Terry fell in love with the courthouse and even though they held their reception at Eddie’s mom’s home in North Hills (about 2 hours away), they could not pass up having the ceremony in Santa Barbara. It was a small gathering of friends and family for the ceremony followed by a larger gathering of friends, family, mariachi, and more that evening!

This was one of two events I photographed this day and I’m very thankful for the team I had helping me make everything possible. Both events turned out beautiful and I can wait to work with Eddie & Terry on their album! Felicitaciones por su matrimonio Eddie & Terry!
