I always tell people that “I like reality” when it comes to my photography. Usually I’m talking about not using Photoshop and getting things right in camera. However, many times this pertains to capturing real moments and real emotion. Even when I’m creating a dynamic shot that requires some set up, I’m always looking for the real moment that is occurring between my couples. That’s what I got while working with Tony & Charlett. I didn’t really have to direct them, I didn’t need to tell them to smile. They were always smiling, naturally playful, and very obviously in love.
I’ve known Tony for a long time. He’s one of my fraternity brother from back in college and he has always been a good guy. When he called me to discuss photographing his wedding I was very excited for him and honored that he called. When I spoke with Charlett it was very obvious how important photography was to her and that’s always a plus. For their engagement session we hit a number of spots in downtown Los Angeles. More and more I’m discovering hidden gems throughout the city, even within places I’ve been to many times. We shot a bit at Union Station (things have changed since I last shot there), across the way by Olvera Street, and at Disney Concert Hall. I had a very hard time narrowing down the images to post, always a good problem to have.
Congratulations Tony & Charlett, I can’t wait for your vineyard destination wedding!
